Administrative management model using KPIs to improve productivity in artisan SMEs [Modelo de gestión administrativa mediante KPIs para mejorar la productividad en empresas artesanales (PYMES)]

This study aimed to analyse the application of an administrative management model using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to improve productivity in artisan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the province of Imbabura, Ecuador. Adopting a quantitative approach, an 11-item structured questionnaire was administered to 30 participants, yielding a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.833, which confirmed the reliability of the instrument. Statistical results demonstrated a significant relationship between KPIs and productivity (r = 0.706; p = 0.000), while the chi-square test (χ² = 85.678; p = 0.000) validated the research hypothesis. Strategic prioritisation through Pareto analysis identified five critical dimensions for intervention, projecting a 20% improvement in overall organisational performance. It is concluded that the implementation of KPIs transforms empirical management into a structured, efficient, and competitively sustainable practice for Ecuador’s artisan sector.
